"How your Words Affect your Skating"

Melissa Wittenborn

Q.  DO YOUR WORDS IMPACT HOW WELL YOU SKATE?
A.  ABSOLUTELY!!!!!

Did you know that scientists have proven that what you say can impact how your brain responds?

Did you know that your brain controls how your body responds?

Did you know that these scientific facts can be helpful with your skating?

When you make remarks to your friends like, "OMG, I am going to have the worst skate of my life today." that remark gets imprinted into the part of your brain that says, 'YESSIR! I'm on it!  I will make sure you have the worst skate of your life today!!  Let's GO!!!!'  That part of your brain doesn't debate what it hears.  It doesn't say, "Well, geesh, I know I'm better than that."  It just follows what your words say out loud.  Your words, stated out loud, gets heard by your ears, which then gets processed through the brain, which tells the body how to respond.

So, I would challenge you to make statements like, "OK Coach, I am going to have the best skate EVER today!"  Say it like you believe it, and see what happens.  Don't let those negative thoughts creep into you.  As a matter of fact, challenge your friends to do the same with you, and see if you both don't have a better skate.

Sound crazy?  I coached the Huskies Hockey team 2 years ago about this very thing and you know what?  They finally took state and went on to Regionals…..

Now go on….I double dare you…..MAKE POSITIVE STATEMENTS TODAY!!!!

Happy Skating!
