The Box Jump is an excellent exercise to develop explosiveness as well as being one of the starting blocks in helping an athlete learn how to triple extend at the ankles, knees and hips. Triple extension is a necessary part of getting a skater to get the required amount of time in the air to complete their on-ice jumps. This exercise also develops strength and take-off power as well as force absorption and postural stability when landing. The arm action of the box jump also relates to the axel, which is just an added benefit. All of these are necessary components for any figure skater working on doubles or triples.
