March 2009 Exercise of the Month
Rationale Behind Utilization of the Side Bend:
The Side Bend is an excellent exercise for increasing one’s core strength, particularly in the external and internal obliques. When doing this exercise, it is imperative the athlete moves side-to-side and not allow any forward movement. When done correctly it provides added core stability for any level of athlete. By improving upon one’s obliques and athlete is better able to brace and control their body during many skating movements, particularly in their air position.
