December 2009 Exercise of the Month

Major Muscles:

  • Quadriceps

  • Hamstrings

  • Hip Flexors

  • Gastrocnemius

  • Soleus

  • Gluteus Maximus

Rationale Behind Utilization of the Plate Push:

The Plate Push is an excellent conditioning exercise that requires a great deal of lower body strength in order to move the plate across the turf/carpet. Not very many other exercises will tax the legs as well as this exercise in terms of lactic acid development particularly in the quadriceps and hamstrings.

For the Plate Push, there are various means in which this exercise can be utilized including: time, distance and many other options including setting up a course for the athlete's to complete. The one setback with this exercise, is that it unfortunately must be done on either turf or carpet.
