Information About Strength Training Evaluations

Strength Training Evaluations are an intricate part of our Strength-Training Program since it gives us information in regards to strength and weaknesses, a way assess improvement throughout the season or seasons as well as a means to compare to other athletes tested. It is strongly recommended each athlete be tested at the start of the new season. Every year we offer our Exercise Testing & Orthopedic Screening Workshop following Regional in late-October to Mid-November. For those who can not make this date, we highly recommend you be tested at another date. It is also recommended for athletes to be tested one to two more times throughout the season to assess progress.

 

The testing assesses each athlete in the following strength training components: muscular strength/power and speed/agility/quickness as well as the exercise technique of 5 important strength training exercises. Skaters will be tested through various means on each of these components: including jumping drills, strength training exercises and other various batteries of tests. Following the testing, each athlete will receive an extensive portfolio explaining how they compare to other athletes tested to date as well as needs of the athlete. This in turn creates a great deal of information that helps to plan the goals for the start of the new season for an athlete.

 

The Orthopedic Screening section of the testing is only offered at our Workshop and is not a requirement. It is great way to be assessed on fine muscular relationships and imbalances (core and joint motion asymmetries), effects on the body from repetitive falls, foot development and cervical and low back concerns. The screening is conducted by Lois Thompson MPT, a well renown Physical Therapist in the area. This portion of the testing lasts twenty minutes
